Patch Testing

Patch testing is a series of applications applied to the skin to find out whether a skin condition may be caused or aggravated by a contact allergy. Indications for patch testing include:

  • Frequent rashes
  • Recurrent rashes
  • Atopic dermatitis with frequent flare ups
  • Rashes than have not resolved, especially with use of appropriate therapies.

These constant, recurrent flare-ups are often caused by contact allergy to personal care products, medications, or things people come in contact with regularly. Knowing what substance a patient is allergic to will help to know what to avoid and can help in the treatment of a recurrent skin condition.
