Chemical peels are designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores, acne, scarring, uneven texture, dryness, oiliness, brown spots, and uneven skin tone. Popular treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, back, and hands. Treatments include time for extractions (removal of blackheads and whiteheads) and finish with an application of appropriate skincare products and sun protection. The medium chemical peel involves application of alpha and beta-hydroxy acids and retinol to exfoliate the outer skin layers to reveal younger, clearer, and healthier-looking skin. This specialty solution is safe for all skin types and does not require skin prep.
The VI Precision Plus Peel®, a medium-depth peel, uses a blend of acids that can be more effective than our medium chemical peel for melasma and other discoloration. This specialty solution is safe for all skin types and does not require skin prep.
The deep chemical peel (Obagi TCA Blue Peel®) uses trichloracetic acid (TCA) to penetrate deeper layers of the skin to promote significant exfoliation to address stubborn melasma or sun-damaged skin. The acid is mixed with a special blue base by Obagi® to monitor and slow penetration. Skin preparation (typically 4-8 weeks prior to procedure) is required to minimize the risk for discoloration.
Discontinue retinoids (such as Retin-A®), benzoyl peroxide, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, depilatory creams, and other potential irritating ingredients three days before treatment.
Avoid laser and light-based treatments, electrolysis, waxing, laser hair reduction, neuromodulator treatment, filler and other injections in treatment area.
If instructed, follow specific skin prepping guidelines for indicated time frame to minimize risk of developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
If instructed, take prescribed medication(s) to help prevent cold sores and/or infection.
The medium chemical solution is formulated with anti-inflammatory ingredients to minimize skin irritation during treatment, allowing for a very comfortable peel treatment. Downtime can vary but is typically minimal with most experiencing 2-3 days of light skin peeling starting 2-3 days after the treatment. The solution can be customized to promote more or less peeling depending on treatment goals. You will be directed to use an ointment while healing for optimal results.
The VI Precision Plus Peel® typically results in 3-5 days of light-medium skin peeling starting 2-3 days after the treatment. Post-peel towelettes will be provided for you to apply after the peel. We recommend scheduling your appointment in the morning due to the timing of the towelettes (first towelette should be applied 4 hours after treatment and the second towelette should be applied 4-8 hours after the first towelette). You will also be directed to use an ointment while healing for optimal results.
Moderate discomfort is typical with the deep chemical peel. Discomfort dissipates after treatment. The deep chemical peel typically results in 5-10 days of medium-deep skin peeling starting 2-3 days after the treatment. The solution can be customized to promote more or less peeling depending on treatment goals. You will be directed to use an ointment while healing for optimal results.
Depending upon skin needs, treatments may be recommended monthly, quarterly, or annually.
You should not have chemical peel treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The procedure should also not be performed if you have open cuts, wounds, abrasions, or are currently experiencing cold sore breakouts or significant acne breakouts. Additionally, you should wait at least six months to receive treatment after completing a course of isotretinoin.
Extraction treatment can be arranged for those desiring extractions without a chemical peel or other exfoliation. Treatment focuses on the removal of comedones (blackheads) and milia (whiteheads) and other material clogging pores. Common extraction sites include the face, ears, neck, chest, and back. The removal of the congested material results in clearer pores and smoother, healthier-looking skin.
